Come Back Mission is a registered Nonprofit Organisation operating in the greater Eldorado Park area (Johannesburg, South Africa) for the past 17 years, given the high rate of poverty, crime and substance abuse related issues that negatively impact communities, especially the youth, Project Pick Six was initiated to address these issues. This youth development initiative aims to provide support to these adolescents and to guide them towards a positive lifestyle change as well as cultivate an enhanced outlook towards to Education. Project Pick Six is combining education with social work and sports. As part of the Project, we introduced the sport American Flag Football (a contact free version of American Football).
The core objective of Project Pick Six is to establish a lasting support system for young individuals that extends beyond the realm of sports, encompassing holistic development with a strong emphasis on promoting the importance of education.
At Project Pick Six, we conduct 3-4 sessions weekly, where our involvement extends beyond the field. We engage with the youth not only on the playing field but also in the classroom, assisting them in structuring their week, completing homework, preparing for exams, and providing a platform to discuss any personal challenges they may face. Additionally, we have sessions where we aim to broaden their horizons, discussing social and societal issues, and initiating initiatives where participants themselves become active in their community to address social problems.
